According to the Nevada State Contractors Board, in order to qualify for your Nevada Contractor License you must possess the experience and skills necessary to manage the complete day-to-day responsibilities of your construction business. Or, you may also simply be represented by a person in your employ with the necessary experience and skills, who then serves as your qualifying party.

“The contractor or other person who will act as the qualifying individual must have had, within the ten years immediately before the filing of the application, at least four full years of experience at a journeyman level, or as a foreman, supervisor, or contractor in the classification for which you are applying.”

Nevada Contractor License Requirements

Before completing and submitting your Nevada contractor license application you will need to pass the general business and law or “CMS” examination. The exam is open book, so you’ll be using the Construction Business and Law Manual, for Nevada. We will help you with your Nevada contractor license exam prep.

Additionally, there is a trade examination specific to the classification of license that you’re applying for. An exam eligibility letter will be sent to you by the Contractors Board, after your application has been filed and board staff has verified your experience.

The trade exams themselves are closed book, but Contractor’s Exam Center will help you determine what content outline you need for your particular exam. Then you can determine which reference, if any, you can have with you during your exam.

The Nevada State Contractors Board issues licenses for the following classifications:

  • Class “A”—General Engineering Contractor.

The principal business is in connection with fixed works requiring specialized engineering knowledge and skill.

  • Class “B”—General Building Contractor.

The principal business is in connection with the construction or remodeling of buildings or structures for the support, shelter and enclosure of persons, animals, chattels or movable property of any kind.

  • Class “C”—Specialty Contractor.

There are 36 separate primary “C” license classifications for contractors whose construction work requires special skill and whose principal contracting business involves the use of specialized building trades or crafts.
